Welcome to what I hope will be an innovative, interesting, entertaining and thought-provoking series analysing and debating what the future holds for our Fine City. Over the last two years I have been part of an ongoing project, along with hundreds of others drawn from all walks of city life, titled Norwich 2040 Future Vision.
The aim has been to get people thinking about what we hope Norwich will be like in just over two decades time – but more importantly, how we can get there, and what roles we should play as individuals.
It has led to two fascinating conferences focusing on a wide variety of issues including homelessness, housing, shopping, transport, mental health, culture, tourism and much more.
It was from this the idea for a Future of Norwich takeover arose, and over the last few weeks my team of reporters have been working tirelessly to identify those key issues our city faces – and how they may develop in the years to come.
For the next five days we will present to you in print and online our findings on a number of key questions facing the city. They include:
- what is the future for the high street?
- what will Norwich be famous for?
- how will we keep the City moving?
- what will a night out in Norwich entail?
- what do our young people want?
We will also feature a series of columns from a wide variety of people connected to the city.
Most importantly, however, we want each of these articles to prompt you, the reader, to get involved in the debate. Between now and the end of the series we'd like you to write to us, comment on the stories or take part in our live social media debates.
Every single person who lives in Norwich has a stake in its future and deserves to have their say. We hope that's exactly what you are prompted to do.
