Fans of the Canaries have shared their thoughts on Norwich City Football Club's decision to team up with Ipswich Town to take on abusive social media users.

Both clubs have today (February 6) announced they will be issuing stadium bans to any supporters posting 'grossly offensive, abusive or discriminatory material' on Facebook, Twitter and other social platforms ahead of the derby day clash at Carrow Road on Sunday, February 18.

Some fans were very supportive of the decision, including actor and Norwich City fan, Stephen Fry, who tweeted: 'It takes a lot to bring us together - but this is a big issue.'

Chris Kiddell added: 'As long as they don't outlaw general banter between the two clubs then this is a good move.'

Similarly, Stewart Robertson commented: 'Good to see the big clubs taking a stand.'

Twitter user @dianencfcfan posted: 'I'm 100 % behind this too, some of comments on here before the last game from both sets of fans about sensitive issues were well out of order, maybe the thought of a ban may make them think.'

However not everyone shared this positive stance.

Steve Sandeel wrote on Facebook: 'With all the empty seats on Saturday at Norwich I'm surprised they can afford it.'

Tony Holland said: 'Free speech being further curtailed. It's only good old fashioned banter.'

While Timmy Bibby thought it was a 'ridiculous' idea.

He posted: 'Ridiculous, stop trying to turn jokes in to criminal acts. Offence is taken, not given. And even if it is given - give some back and stop wasting the police's time. People need to laugh a little more in life.'
