A Norwich music group is to perform its next concert in memory of one of its most enthusiastic supporters.

Norwich Baroque will be dedicating its concert, Rebels and Reverends, to Douglas Losh-Atkinson, an honorary friend of the group, who died aged 80 on September 23.

Mr Losh-Atkinson, from Norwich, and his late wife Ruthli became keen followers of Norwich Baroque shortly after the group was formed 10 years ago, and Mr Losh-Atkinson also came up with the idea for the Losh-Atkinson Historic Sounds Composition Competition.

Now in its fourth year, the competition has encouraged the creation of an array of new Baroque work with a modern twist.

Paying tribute, Jane Slocombe, from Norwich Baroque, said Mr Losh-Atkinson had fought bravely for many years against the effects of Parkinson's disease and had refused to let it stop him living life to the full.

She said: 'Douglas has been a loyal and incredibly enthusiastic supporter of Norwich Baroque, always sitting as far to the front of the audience as he could get, and dressed in his own colourful and eccentric way.

'Despite the effects of Parkinson's disease and the side effects of medication he was always the first to leap to his feet in applause. He loved the camaraderie and energy of his baroque family.'

She added: 'Douglas was innovative, generous, loyal and incredibly positive, never allowing his physical trials to stem his creative flow. He has made a lasting impression on us all as well as leaving the competition as a great legacy. We hope that Rebels and Reverends will be fitting and suitably vibrant tribute to his memory. He will be much missed.'

Rebels and Reverends will be performed on Saturday, October 22 at 7.30pm at St Stephens Church, Rampant Horse Street. It will feature music by composers including Vivaldi, Victoria, Mudge, Biber, Rebel, Kellie and Locke. For more details about tickets and to book, call Prelude Records on 01603 628319.
