Norwich artist beats hundreds of entries to win prize in international competition

A Norwich artist has been named as a prizewinner in an international contemporary art contest.

Lara Cobden has won the Parker Harris Prize in the Wells Art Contemporary 2018 competition.

Following an international open call, 123 artists were shortlisted from 1397 submissions from 26 different countries - the highest number of entries in the history of the prize.

Ms Cobden describes her prizewinning work, titled Liminal Space as a form of “magical realism” created in response to the natural world. As winner of the Parker Harris Prize, Ms Cobden will receive professional development mentoring from the London based arts consultancy which is one of the leading visual arts consultancies in the UK.

The shortlisted works are currently displayed at The Bishop’s Palace in Wells, at the end of the exhibition The ChubbBulleid People’s Prize will be awarded to the artist whose work is most popular with visitors.
