A team from Northgate High School in Dereham has finished in fourth place in the national finals for handball, achieving the school's highest ever national ranking.

The girls team, made up of 11 pupils from year eight who had started playing the sport just three months earlier, took part in the England Handball National Finals over the weekend of June 10 at Worcester University.

They battled schools from across the country, achieving two wins, two draws and two losses, and finished in fourth position.

It marks the first time a girls' sports team from Northgate has reached the National Finals in 35 years.

Mrs Holt, Head of Girls PE, said: 'It is estimated around 300 schools have taken part in the U13 England Handball competition, therefore the girls finishing fourth in the country is a great achievement. I am extremely proud of the girls and their progress over the last three months has been amazing.'
