Children's cancer nurses have been given a boost by a rocking music night which auctioned star lots.

The annual Live Aid concert at North Walsham combines a bevy of bands with dozens of lots of signed and donated by celebrities.

The event organised by local musician Barry Holden was first inspired by the 1985 global humanitarian aid concert.

His local version has generated 30,000 for various children's charities over the years, and the latest one raised 5,000 for Macmillan Cancer Care's work in Norfolk with a focus on its paediatric nursing, which Mr Holden has now handed to Max Griffiths from the charity.

This year's event showcased the talents of five local bands; Raw Edge, Blind Tiger, The Burning Crows, Pout At The Devil and The Floating Greyhounds, who all gave their time free for the cause.

Months of preparation before the event saw Mr Holden contacting 200 celebrities and tour managers asking for items for the auction.

Out of the 35 items available on the night, the highest bid was for a bass guitar signed by Genesis's Mike Rutherford bass guitar which sold for 300. Other leading lots were a signed photo of Ozzy Osbourne which went for more than 100 and a signed picture from the private collection of Sir Stirling Moss. The auction alone raised nearly 1,700.

Mr Holden thanked the local businesses who donated to a 80-item raffle, and the team of eight volunteers who helped run the event, and is already planning the 2013 event.
