The site of a major fire in a pile of scrap timber, which burned for nearly a month, is still too hot to inspect.
Flames tore through the yard near the A10 at North Runcton, south of King’s Lynn on Saturday, January 21.
At its height more than 50 firefighters battled the blaze. The cause of the fire is still being investigated.
Today West Norfolk council said: “The ash pile is still smouldering in several places, and is still too hot to complete a detailed site walkover or take samples for analysis.
“Once the ash pile has reached a suitable temperature we will complete the detailed site walkover and take ash samples. It will take around three to four weeks to analyse the samples.” Norfolk fire service said it could not provide a figure regarding the cost of the operation.
Crews remained on site for a fortnight monitoring the fire, as it was allowed to burn itself out.
