Runners will be beginning their preparations as entries for Broadland District Council's Marriott's Way 10km race are now open.

The race on Sunday, October 8, will run along the section of the Marriott's Way between Aylsham and Reepham.

The course, ending in Reepham Market Place, is largely off-road and flat, with spectators gathering in the Market Place to celebrate with the runners as they cross the finish line.

It's no surprise that the race, which is now in its ninth year, is equally as popular with both experienced and beginner runners.

Claudette Bannock, Member Champion for Sport at Broadland District Council, said: 'The Marriott's Way race attracts runners not only from Norfolk but from around the country too. It's always a good day for runners and their families as well as local people and I hope that this year will be no exception.'

Last year 450 people signed up for the race, with the athletes raising money for charity as well as running to beat their personal bests.

For those who want to get involved, but have never run before, Active Norfolk is holding a 'Couch to 10K' six-week programme from August 21, in Aylsham, for just £6 per person.

Visit www.activenorfolk.org/marriottsway for more details.

Businesses and organisations are also encouraged to get involved by getting a team of four together to undertake the MW10k corporate challenge.

These teams will compete against other corporate teams, with the quartet with the lowest time winning, complete with a prize.

Runners will begin their race in Aylsham, departing in waves at 11am, 11.10am and 11.20am.

Entry costs from £14-16 per person, £1 from each entry will be donated to Norfolk Trails, a charity that maintains Marriott's Way.

To enter, and to see race rules, visit www.broadland.gov.uk/mw10k.

Runners can also share photos of their training sessions in the run-up, and after the race, by using the #MarriottsOfFire on Facebook and Twitter.
