One of north Norfolk's heritage attractions has announced record passenger numbers for the second year running.

Last year, 161,054 passengers travelled on the North Norfolk Railway, which runs between Sheringham and Holt.

General manager Trevor Eady said 2014 started exceptionally well with good support for all the events during the early part of the year.

He added: 'The Steam Gala events attracted large numbers of both enthusiasts and family visitors while the themed events such as Thomas, Dads Army, Vintage Transport and the beer festival drew in visitors with the appropriate interests.

Mr Eady said the success of the railway was due to the enthusiasm of almost 400 volunteers.

The railway has secured funding for improvements at Sheringham Station and it is hoped work will begin in October in preparation for the 2016 season.

There will be new toilet block and tourist information centre.

Anyone interested in becoming a volunteer should contact the railway for a volunteer pack containing information on the activities available. Email volunteerenquiries@nnrailway.co.uk or phone 01263 820800.

This year's Thomas event will be from May 2 to 4.
