A Norfolk MP is set to join Norwich City legend Jeremy Goss for part of his Back to Bayern bike ride to raise money for blind people in Norfolk.

Keen cyclist Norman Lamb plans to join the former Canaries' midfield star for the first leg of the marathon ride, which will see them cycling from Norwich to Arnhem in Holland, where Norwich City started their magnificent Uefa Cup run in 1993. Mr Lamb said: 'I am both excited and nervous. This is a great cause and I have great admiration for Jeremy Goss.'

It is not the first time Mr Lamb has completed a long distance ride, having cycled the 300 miles from London to Paris in four days for the Royal British Legion in 2009.

As well as raising money for the Norfolk and Norwich Association for the Blind (NNAB) Mr Lamb will also be raising funds for The Benjamin Foundation, based in North Walsham.

Now the events fundraiser for the NNAB, Mr Goss will be starting his 1,300-mile ride on August 3, before pedalling on to Munich, the scene of the club's famous 2-1 win over Bayern Munich in the Olympic Stadium.

He said: 'It's great to have Norman on board. He will give me extreme support and will be a great boost.'

Four blind riders, supported by sighted volunteers, also plan to do the first part of the ride from Norwich to Harwich on tandem.

Mr Goss added: 'That in itself is 100 miles. It's very humbling to think they will be spurring me on and a timely reminder of why we are doing this.'

NNAB supports independent living for 20,000 blind and partially sighted people in the county, but receives no state funding, relying entirely on donations, legacies and investments. For more information visit www.nnab.org.uk or call 01603 629558.
