People living in Old Buckenham have raised more than £32,000 to help support a charity which tackles homelessness.

Cheques totalling £32,500 were handed over to St Martins Housing Trust at the Gamekeeper pub on Saturday, February 10.

The money was raised by villagers over the past 12 months - mostly through collections outside supermarkets.

Around £1,000 came from the Old Buckenham 2000 Trust and £500 was raised at a candle-lit service at All Saints Church on Christmas Eve.

Jan Sheldon, chief executive officer of St Martins, was joined by other members of staff and one person who had been helped by the charity, to collect the cheque.

She said the charity had managed to slightly reduce the number of people sleeping rough in Norwich.
