A new website ranking schools on working conditions for their employees has been set up in a bid to better inform teachers.

Where to Teach has been launched by the Norfolk branch of the National Education Union (NEU), a merger of the National Union of Teachers and Association of Teachers and Lecturers, to point teachers in the direction of schools with favourable employment conditions.

It works on a checklist system, with schools scored out of the 18 points.

The list includes points including term-time only contracts, a well-being service provided for staff and agreed policies with unions.

The Norfolk NEU said: 'We are lucky in Norfolk, we have many schools and academies that take everyday work conditions seriously. Wheretoteach.co.uk is our way of sharing what we know about those schools.

'We have ranked these schools/academies in their commitment to favourable conditions. Norfolk NEU want to celebrate and promote those employers that know how to recruit and retain teachers.

'To keep the best teachers in Norfolk schools and academies, there needs to be a race to the top in offering teachers fair pay, reasonable workload and a voice in saying what goes in their school.'

The website includes a section on disputes, in which the unions say: 'From time to time, even after extensive negotiation on our behalf, some employers do not meet the standard we expect. The live disputes below mean our members face a detriment in conditions of service compared to other professional colleagues in the county.

'As a result, we strongly advise you to contact us before starting a post at these institutions.'
