Norfolk's first gold medallist, swimmer Jessica-Jane Applegate has done her county proud, and, as is befitting her achievement, now has more than a gold medal to show for her victory.
Along with a parade on September 15, Paralympian Jessica-Jane is also one of an elite group of Olympians and Paralympians to be featured on a Royal Mail gold stamp and a Royal Mail postbox in Station Road South, Belton, near to the Railway Tavern pub run by her aunt Vicki, The Railway Tavern, has been painted gold in her honour.
On Saturday, September 15, there will be a town centre parade for Jessica-Jane, who has Asperger syndrome, followed by a civic reception and balcony appearance at the Town Hall.
It will set off from the Town Hall at 9.55am on the land train, heading through Nottingham Way, St Peters Road, Deneside, King Street and through the Market Place not long after 10am, the route will then continue down The Conge, then back to Town Hall for 10.30am.
Great Yarmouth Borough Council are encouraging local people to cheer Jessica-Jane as she passes through and are inviting residents to stand beneath the balcony at the front of the Town Hall building for her appearance at about 10.30am.
