Norfolk's food producers are being encouraged not to miss out on an opportunity to supply produce onto the 14 million plates of food that will be served to visitors, media, VIPS and athletes during the 2012 Games.

The London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (LOCOG), which is responsible for preparing and staging the 2012 Games, will have its sourcing team and a large group of buyers and development chefs for 'Meet the Buyer' sessions at the 2011 International Food and Drink Event at Excel London from March 13 to 16.

Norfolk County Council is keen for the county's producers to attend the event in the hope that their produce will be used during the Olympics.

James Carswell, the county council's cabinet member for cultural services, said: 'We have thousands of food producers in Norfolk, producing some globally renowned products.

'It is therefore only fitting that we ensure that Norfolk produce is showcased to those visiting the world's biggest sporting event.

'The Olympic organisers say that there will be around fourteen million plates of food served up during the 2012 Games. Individuals and companies in the food industry in our county should be aware that the March event in London offers opportunities to both exhibit to, and try and network amongst, companies that are tasked with feeding the Games.'

Food businesses which cannot get to the event are urged to register with Compete For to receive updates on contract opportunities. To register with Compete For, go to www.competefor.com
