A lifesaving charity has received support from another front-line emergency service with a pledge to brand every police car in Norfolk with the logo of the East Anglian Air Ambulance.

Officials from the air ambulance spoke of their delight after Norfolk Police chiefs agreed to its fleet of cars sporting a 'proud to support the East Anglian Air Ambulance' red badge.

The initiative aims to raise awareness of the air ambulance charity, which has been coming to the aid of seriously ill and injured patients in the East of England for the last 14 years.

Every police car will be getting the supporter's logo this month to highlight the partnership between Norfolk Police and the charity.

Sophie Emmanuel, the air ambulance's deputy fundraising coordinator for Norfolk, said: 'Everyone at the EAAA would like to say a massive thank you to all at Norfolk Police for their help and cooperation with our 'Proud to Support' initiative. Special thanks go to Superintendent James Smerdon (Retired) and Assistant Chief Constable Nick Dean who made it possible. We often work side by side with local police forces and this is a fantastic way we can join together to raise awareness.'

The partnership was celebrated with members of the police visiting the Norwich base of Anglia One on Tuesday with two vehicles, including the Lotus Evora S.

Chief Inspector Chris Spinks, head of the joint Norfolk and Suffolk Roads Policing Unit, said: 'Our teams work closely with the air ambulance along with paramedics on the ground and see first-hand the work they do to save lives and get casualties to hospital as quickly as possible. This truly is a life-saving service and one which we are proud to support.'

The air ambulance charity operates two helicopters, in Norwich and Cambridge, which work 365 days a year across the region. The organisation needs to raise £6m a year from public donations and fundraising.

Patrick Peal, interim chief executive, added: 'We are extremely grateful for this massive demonstration of support for the lifesaving work of this charity. Norfolk is the birthplace of the EAAA and we have always enjoyed a very close working relationship with the Norfolk Police.'
