A group that works to protect and spread the Norfolk dialect had a right old 'dew' on Sunday as it put on its annual panto.

The Friends of Norfolk Dialect (FONDS) group put their twist on Aladdin as part of a day of fun and fund-raising.

More than 150 people turned out at Lincoln Hall, in Hingham, to see the pantomime, the Norfolk-tinged script for which is only given to the cast 15 minutes before they tread the boards.

Rosemary Cooper, secretary of FONDS, said the seat-of-your-pants approach made for a unique experience.

'The cast are very brave to take it on and it's always very funny. They read from the script but, of course, there are always lots of slip-ups and it just makes it all the funnier,' she said.

The group's work is aimed at keeping the Norfolk dialect alive, according to Ms Cooper.

'We know that all dialects change and evolve but you hear less and less of the Norfolk accent as the world changes.

'We want to do our best to keep it alive and this is a fun way of doing that,' she said.

Funds raised on the day went towards the work done by FONDS and there was also a collection for the EDP's We Care Appeal.
