The government has this morning given the go-ahead to proposals for the world's second-largest windfarm to be built off the Norfolk coast.
The Crown Estate has confirmed the winners of the bids to build round three windfarms around the UK, including a �15bn project off the Norfolk coast, about 15 miles offshore near Great Yarmouth and Lowestoft.
A consortium involving Scottish Power and Vattenfall, a state-owned Swedish power group, has secured the rights to the area, one of nine put up for auction by the Crown Estate.
Prime minister Gordon Brown said that announcement will make a 'significant and practical contribution' to cutting the UK's carbon emissions and create tens of thousands of jobs.

The windfarm, which is likely to have at least 1,000 turbines, will dwarf the existing 30-turbine site at Scroby Sands near Yarmouth. Construction work is likely to start towards the end of the decade and the windfarm, which will be built in stages, could ultimately have a generating output five times greater than Sizewell B nuclear power station.
