A Norfolk man accused of causing death by dangerous driving appeared in court today.

Matthew Ritchie, 38, of Morris Road, North Walsham, is alleged to have driven a black Hyundai Santa Fe which collided with a blue Toyota Aygo.

The incident happened on the A146 at Hales in the early hours of Saturday, April 27 last year, Great Yarmouth Magistrates heard.

Dawn Bartlett, the driver of the Toyota, died of her injuries in hospital.

Ritchie is accused of causing death by dangerous driving, driving without due care and attention, drink driving and driving other than in accordance with a driving licence.

He spoke only to confirm his name and address and wore a grey suit and maroon tie.

Ritchie, represented by lawyer Damien Moore, entered no plea.

He was given unconditional bail until a hearing at Norwich Crown Court on Tuesday, January 21.
