Food parcels collected by trade union members to be delivered to food bank

A trade union is set to deliver food parcels to a west Norfolk foodbank.

The parcels were collected by the GMB's members from the King's Lynn branch.

They will be will be delivered to the town's Trussel Trust foodbank on Wednesday.

Last year proved to be the busiest year to date for the town's foodbank, which is based at the Purfleet Trust.

It fed 4,322 people, which was a 16pc rise on 2016, including nearly 1,500 children.

Dave Dennis, GMB No 1 Branch secretary, said: 'In this day and age it is wrong that such organisations need to exist, but while there is a need we at the King's Lynn branch of the GMB union will do our bit to help out.

'They need food and toiletries regularly donated but they also need help with finding a suitable permanent premises and funding to cover their running costs.
