A dog from Hellesdon has made it to the finals of a national competition.

Inca the Labrador-cross is one of six dogs from the UK to make it through to the finals of the HiLife Pets As Therapy (PAT) Dog of the Year Award.

She regularly visits an adult mental health hospital which specialises in care for the elderly. She also meets children at a local school where they read aloud to her to improve their literacy skills.

Owner, Sheena Scrimgeour, said: 'Inca is a very busy dog and she does so much for the local community, from helping children improve their reading, to offering a calming presence and easing exam stress for university students.

'Her gentle nature and friendly personality mean that she is perfect to help anyone she comes across.'

The winner of the award will be announced during a presentation at Crufts dog show on March, 9 at 1.55pm at the NEC in Birmingham.

The winning dog, as voted for by the public, will receive a cheque for £500 and a three-month supply of HiLife goodies.
