In order to share their special day with the public, the couple have asked lord lieutenants across the country to nominate ordinary heroes to join the wedding celebrations at Windsor Castle.

The Lord Lieutenant of Norfolk has made one nomination for each of the six places the county has been allocated, and each nominee can take one guest.

A Norfolk County Council spokesman said: 'The Royal Couple had asked that the people chosen are community-focussed and from a broad range of backgrounds.

'All of our nominees have experience in either volunteering or charity work.'

The names of the nominees have yet to be revealed and they have until Friday, April 13 to accept their invitation.

In neighbouring Cambridgeshire, inspirational youngster Jorja Furze, from Ely, was rewarded a wedding invitation for her dedication in supporting amputees in her community.

As an amputee herself from birth, the 12-year-old helped to set up the Steel Bones charity based in Isleham, which she is an ambassador of, and went on to win the Child of Achievement award at the Ely Hero Awards 2017.

Describing her delight at receiving an invitation, she said: 'I was really excited and shocked because I didn't think I would get an invite.

'I had been told my name had been mentioned to some people about the wedding, but I didn't think I'd get close to it.'

Jorja has also set up a quiet space at her school where children with mental health issues can relax.

She said: 'Me and my friend both suffer from anxiety and mental health, we decided we should do something because we knew a lot of people had similar problems and we convinced the teacher to let us start this up.'

Jorja said she would be taking her mother Gabrielle, 39, to the wedding and would go shopping for a new outfit.

She will be among the crowds of 2,640 people allowed into the grounds of Windsor Castle to share in the atmosphere of the royal wedding on Saturday, May 19.

The special invitees will watch the arrival of the bride and groom at St George's Chapel as well as their wedding guests, and watch the carriage procession begin its route through Windsor.
