A historic church is a step closer to being able to complete improvement work after hosting a barbecue fundraiser.

St Margaret Starston Church in Harleston hosted the event on Sunday June 24 and raised £179 for funds towards the church.

Earlier that weekend, a collection was held by the Royal Air Force Association and the Royal British Legion at Co-op Harleston. This was able to raise £341,59 for both causes.

Herbert Websdell and partner Julie Websdell are out raising money around the town most weekends.

Mr Websdell said: 'We are always trying to raise money locally and for local courses.

'We are out most weekends and last weekend we managed to raise a lot for local causes.

'A lot of people now donate to charity on their phones but it is still nice to see people donating to us outside of stores.'

The church of St. Margaret's dates from around 1300 although evidence of an earlier building is present.

Its tower and chancel date to the 15th century.
