A band of north Norfolk bell ringers will be marking the centenary of the end of the First Wold War, by taking part in a national project aptly named Ringing Remembers.
The scheme, which is funded by the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government in partnership with the Central Council of Bell Ringers, aims to honour the 1,400 ringers who died in service by recruiting the same number of people to ring bells at churches across the country on November 11.
At Wells-next-the-Sea, Holkham and Wighton, church bells will be ringing out throughout the day as part of the project, which has seen hundreds of people sign up to take part.
Chris Richmond, who joined Wells Bell Ringers earlier this year, said: “We wanted to take part as it’s a nice, traditional way of commemorating those who lost their lives and because I have a personal interest in local history, it tied the two things together very well.”
