An archer is hoping his Olympic pledge will be on target as he aims to get more people into the sport.

Andy Beer, from Wymondham, has pledged to deliver archery coaching sessions as part of Active Norfolk's Pledge 2012 scheme.

The 48-year-old bus driver's commitment comes ahead of Active Norfolk's Coach Education Week which is set to take place at the Sportspark at the University of East Anglia from April 10 to 15.

Mr Beer, who first started archery 35 years ago and completed his UKCC Level 1 archery course as part of last year's coach education week, said he hoped he would get more people interested.

He said: 'I love the sport. I love the challenge and I love the coaching – the sense of achievement in showing someone how to do something they haven't done before and seeing them improve at it. '

Mr Beer will put on courses in May in Wymondham. The sessions will be open to anyone aged over 18 who wants to try archery. He also plans to run tasters as part of the Norfolk Village Games and disability taster sessions.

Meanwhile, coaches and those interested in gaining sports qualifications are being urged to attend the coach education week.

In total, 36 courses will be delivered including 11 full national governing body coaching qualifications including football, badminton, volleyball, rounders, athletics and netball courses.

Ian Grange, coaching development manager for Active Norfolk, said: 'Coaches play a fundamental role in the delivery of sport and ensuring they can access quality development courses is a key priority for us.'

Active Norfolk has secured funding to support a large number of the courses that form coach education week 2012.
