Cromer and District Royal British Legion formally welcomed its youngest ever standard bearer, at a ceremony led by branch chairman Hilary Cox MBE.
Nineteen-year-old former Aylsham High School student Bethan Phillip-Pritchard, who is enjoying a gap year before going heading off to study law at university in September, has already had a chance to carry the standard at events and ceremonies including the Royal Norfolk Show, the Great Pilgrimage in Ypres, Belgium, and the annual rededication of the county standard at Aylsham.
Following in the footsteps of her father David, who is Poppy Appeal organiser for the branch, Ms Phillip-Pritchard, whose duties will also include attending the funerals of members of the legion and the Armed Forces, has been a member at Cromer for more than two years.
She said: 'It has been such a marvellous honour to be formerly recognised as the branch standard bearer and I am very grateful to everyone who has helped me with my training in order to achieve the required benchmark.'
