A scheme has been launched in Lowestoft and Beccles to provide safe havens for vulnerable people who face difficulties as they travel around the north Suffolk towns.
The Stay Safe scheme involves 20 shops, restaurants and other premises used by the public who have trained staff to help people who are vulnerable, disabled or have learning difficulties who may be lost, worried or need to see a friendly face.
Premises taking part are displaying Stay Safe stickers in their windows and people who may need help are being issued with information cards, which provide their personal details, any health issues and contact numbers.
Monday's launch of the scheme at the Marina Theatre means there are now 108 shops and other premises signed up countywide to Stay Safe, which was launched last year in Felixstowe and is gradually spreading across Suffolk through the Suffolk Hate Crime Service.
