New head of academy 'delighted' to be appointed

Craig Morrison, currently deputy principal at the Parkside Federation, Cambridge, will take up the role in June.

The Lynn Academy, formerly Park High School, opened its doors in September last year and has initially been led by Alison Ross, a national education leader.

She was an interim head for the first year and will be returning to Kesteven and Sleaford High School.

Chairman of the governors, David Pomfret, principal of the College of West Anglia (CWA) said: 'Mr Morrison demonstrates a very clear shared vision for success and has outstanding leadership capability and a strong track record of excellent teaching.'

Mr Morrison comes from a background in teaching English, media and theatre.

'I am delighted to become principal of the academy and have been very impressed by the staff, students and members of local community

'I am particularly looking forward to building our relationship with our sponsor, CWA. This is a very exciting time to join the academy as we look forward to our first set of results in August,' he said.

Prior to working in Cambridge, he worked in Cheshire and was vice- chairman of the National Association for the Teaching of English from 2004 to 2006.

The academy was officially opened by gold-medal winning athlete Kris Akabusi and, speaking at the time, Mrs Ross said she had set a target to more than double attainment this year, from 21pc of pupils leaving with five A* to C grade GCSEs to 50pc.

A planned move to South Lynn's Nora site fell through due to government cash cutbacks.
