Situated in Market Place, the store is one of 14 retail outlets run by PACT Animal Sanctuary, which, over the past 20 years, has rescued or rehomed more than 13,000 animals, ranging from dogs, cats and ponies, to hedgehogs, birds and rabbits.

The charity also houses more than 12,000 animals at its sanctuary at Woodrising, near Hingham.

Su Leske, of PACT, cut the ribbon to open the new shop, which will be managed by lifelong animal-lover Laura Mackay.

PACT regional retail manager Janet Morris, who oversaw the setting up of the new store, said: "We opened the door to a crowd of people and had a great first day, all we need now is plenty of donations to restock the shelves."
