The all-new Kia Optima goes on sale in the UK early next year.

The upgraded Optima boasts a new swept-back, dynamic shape, a bold interior design with more space for all occupants, an array of new technologies and a wide choice of efficient powertrains with a a high-efficiency plug-in hybrid electric version joining next year.

The new model will offer greater refinement and improved ride and handling, while retaining the sporty image that has helped Optima become one of Kia's best-selling models worldwide.

Marginally longer, taller and wider, it has a roomier and more comfortable cabin, with more head, shoulder and rear-seat legroom. Cargo space has grown to 510 litres.

The dashboard is divided into an upper 'display' zone and a lower 'control' zone, ensuring drivers need never take their eyes off the road in order to see the key information displayed. The upper 'display' zone has a new eight-inch touchscreen infotainment system and lower 'control' zone offering fewer buttons to manage the various cabin functions that aren't already built into the touchscreen.

The bodyshell is lighter but stronger with 50% of it now made of advanced high-strength steel.

At launch an upgraded 141PS 1.7-litre CRDi diesel engine, with CO2 emissions reduced by 14% to a low of 110g/km, is offered with the current 163PS 2.0-litre petrol engine.

Next year will see the launch of the plug-in hybrid electric Optima and Kia Motors Europe's first high-performance saloon.
