New gates signal new era at Greenacre Primary School

Pupils at Greenacre Primary School are entering a new era with special new gates being hung to mark the transition to academy-status.

The big gates, each weighing 150 kg, have been made to measure and hung at the Dickens Avenue school, which becomes Great Yarmouth Primary Academy in September.

Bill Holledge, the head teacher who took over the school a year ago, said: 'Entry and exit at our main entrance has been a problem for our parents and pupils with queues on occasion.

'We decided to solve the difficuly, take down the narrow old gates and metal fencing and install big new gates for easy access.'

The 2,500 gates took a week to design and construct at Harleston Engineering at Beccles.

The school has seen academic results more than double in the past year.
