It comes just a few weeks before the charity hosts its week-long Purple Picnic event.

Sarah Dodge, community funding and marketing officer for Nelson's Journey, said: ' The young volunteers work really hard to support us with our service by giving us their views and ideas, so it's really rewarding for them to get out into the community and see how their support makes a real difference.'

This year, the group of young volunteers were supported by Beans Boat Trips.

They showcased fundraising ideas for the Purple Picnic such as a raffle, book sale, craft table, face painting and balloon modelling alongside a bake sale. The Purple Picnic takes place from July 9 to 15.
