Nashville music star praises Norfolk pub

A Norfolk pub has seen its already burgeoning reputation for live music given a further boost with fast rising American country music star Canaan Cox singing its praises.
The Nashville-based singer-songwriter played the 250-capacity Back Room venue at The Barrel pub in Banham last month.
Word of mouth as seen the South Norfolk pub win a strong following amongst visiting American performers, and the singer’s gig was one of just three he played in the UK.
He was so impressed with his visit to rural Norfolk that he now taken to social media to thanks the pob and has shared a live video of his performance.
He said: “I can’t explain how amazing playing at Banham Barrel was. More than half the room knew every word to every one of my songs. What an amazing feeling. Thank you, Norfolk for making me feel like I was at home and one of your own. I’ll see you again!”
The North Carolina native is one of county music’s newest stars with his self-titled EP and recently released single Take My Time marking him out as one to watch. His only other dates in the UK were at the prestigious Nashville Nights in London and in Manchester.
His was the latest high profile gig at The Barrel. Other recent performers include the Alabama 3, John Wheeler of Hayseed Dixie and Norfolk Britain’s Got Talent finalists Jack and Tim.
Landlord Brian McAllister said: “There has been a glut of stories about independent music venues closing, but we are having a ball at The Barrel and things are getting better all the time.”
