Tributes have been laid and a friend has spoken of his shock after a man died when his 4x4 vehicle and HGV collided on a notorious bend on a rural road in South Norfolk.
Floral tributes and moving messages, including one saying 'so tragically taken, you and your cheeky grin will always have a special place in our hearts', have been laid at the road side on Foulden Road at Didlington, near Mundford.
Police were called at 6.30pm on October 9 to an accident involving a green Daihatsu FourTrak 4x4 and a Scania HGV. The driver of the Daihatsu, a man in his 30s, died at the scene. The driver of the HGV was uninjured. A man in his 40s was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
Nick Borrow, from Watton, who was a friend of the man who died, was amongst those laying tributes.
He did not want to give his friend's full name ahead of him being formally identified by police, but said: 'It's tragic that this could happen.
'We saw the police yesterday so to learn it was to do with someone I knew is totally shocking. It's a dangerous bit of the road but he knew it very well. We felt we had to come and leave some flowers in respect.
'I have know him for three or four years and we have been quite close. We did lots of things together. He was a really nice guy who would do anything for people.'
A woman who lives nearby, but who preferred to not be named, said she had been in her garden when she heard the sound of the collision.
She said: 'I went out to see if I could help and there were already other people pulling up and calling the ambulance and police. It all happened so quickly.
'A woman who stopped was a doctor and she was trying to do CPR. It was just the worst thing, so upsetting. My heart goes out to him and his family.'
The road runs through woodland and meadows between the A134 and the village of Foulden.
Christine Folcher, who lives in nearby Northwold, said: 'It's tragic but not surprising as this bend is so dangerous. These are small roads around here but we do get a lot of fast traffic.'
Police would like to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the incident or the manner of driving of either vehicle before the collision.
