Lowestoft police arrested a motorist on suspicion of drink driving in the early hours of this morning (Sunday) – as they attempted to cross the town's Bascule bridge, which has been closed overnight recently for repair works.
The official twitter account for Lowestoft police said: 'Driver arrested on suspicion of driving with excess alcohol after trying to cross the Bascule Bridge, which was closed for repairs.'
A series of overnight improvement works have taken place recently, with the A12 Bascule bridge being closed overnight from Monday, January 23 between 8pm and 6am.
Highways chiefs have been working on the town's three-lane bridge, with the work due to finish by Monday, February 20. Diversions are in place while the bridge is closed.
