Leanne Rowett, 36, of Short Lane, Lowestoft, was out with her husband when the attack took place in the Carlton Pub, in London Road South, on July 17 last year.

The court heard Rowett had been captured on CCTV punching and kicking Matthew Johnson after he had fallen to the ground.

Mr Johnson's left eye had been badly damaged during the assault, leaving him permanently blind in that eye.

Rowett had pleaded guilty to inflicting grievous bodily harm at a previous hearing.

Jailing Rowett, recorder Rex Bryan said at Ipswich Crown Court today that the attack had a 'life-changing' effect on the victim.

He said: 'This was, in my judgement, an extremely violent assault with kicks and punches on a man mostly while he was on the ground.

'Not surprisingly it resulted in serious injury to him.

'The court has looked at the video and seen what you did on that day and as a result of your attack on him he was blinded in one eye.

'This has had a life-changing effect on him and you bear responsibility for that as you know.

'You were out that night with your husband drinking.

'Your children, who were then aged ten and eight, were at home, presumably with a child minder.

'I have read a large number of supportive references but they cannot detract from the fact this was a very serious assault indeed.'

He said Rowett had a 'long history' of 'drunken misbehaviour' over a number of years.

'There is no excuse for what you did on that day,' he said.

'The circumstances for the victim were life-changing.

'You will suffer as a result of this sentence but for many years you have been out of control for drink and assaulting people.

'This is the end of the line.'

Rowett's husband Gareth Rowett, 37, of Beresford Road, Lowestoft, also appeared in court today having pleaded guilty to assaulting Martin Cook during the same incident. He was handed a 12 month community order and told he must carry out 80 hours of unpaid work.
