A mother has launched a 5,000 fundraising campaign to help open a new nursery in Watton.

Heidi Billing, 27, who grew up in the town, decided she wanted to establish a nursery for children under two after having her son two years ago.

She said: 'There is a lack of childcare in the town. When I had Sonny I met other mums and their concern was that they had to travel out of the town to get childcare.'

It is hoped that the new facility will be open by spring next year and Mrs Billing would like it to be called the Happy Feet Day Nursery.

Anyone who attends will be looked after by qualified staff and the the mother-of-one, who used to work in childcare for 10 years before having her son, also hopes to run a breakfast club and after school club for people aged between four and 14.

Fundraising for the nursery started last month and 420 has been raised so far.

A pamper evening at the Blenheim Centre, in Tedder Close, which attracted some 85 people, made just over 300. Money has also been raised through cake stalls.

Future fundraisers will include a Christmas fete and bingo night at the Watton Sports Centre, in Dereham Road, another pamper evening at the Blenheim Centre, a sponsored walk and a charity auction.
