A mother and daughter from West Norfolk are hosting a race night to raise money for two cancer charities close to their hearts.
Jackie and Catherine Sugden, King's Lynn, have already ran the London Marathon and the Royal Parks half marathon for the Pancreatic Cancer Research Fund and the Teenage Cancer Trust, but want to raise as much money as possible.
Mrs Sugden said: 'We chose these charities as both are close to our hearts. Catherine lost a very close school friend to cancer when she was only 19, and ran this in Jess's memory.
'As a community nurse of many years standing, I come across many people with terminal illnesses. But after a spate of looking after several people, all fairly young with pancreatic cancer, and realising that there is limited funds for research, I decided to run in memory of these people who accepted their illnesses with courage and dignity in the hope of raising awareness of the charity and raising money for their cause.'.
Miss Sugden, a Primary School teacher at Howard Junior School in King's Lynn and Mrs Sugden, a community Nurse also in King's Lynn, signed up for the challenge of running the Royal Parks Half Marathon in London 18 months after completing the London Marathon in April 2017. Unfortunately, due to serious illness within the family training was cut short but committed to take part, and with little training, the duo completed the half marathon, just 30 seconds slower than the half way point on their London Marathon time.
Mrs Sugden said: 'We were well pleased. Soaked, and sore but happy to have taken part.'
The race night event is being held on Saturday, November 10, at Reffley Community Hall in King's Lynn.
Doors open at 6.30pm with the first race at 7pm. There is a fully licensed bar, a large raffle with prizes donated by local companies and a refreshment stall.
Bets are a £1, £5 to be an owner, or £3 to be a Jockey. Prizes to be won for all races. Admission is £2 for adults, £1 for children.
