A WOMAN in her 20s has been cautioned by police for being drunk in charge of a two-year-old child in Kirkley.

She was arrested after officers out on patrol on the evening of Tuesday, June 14, were told by a passer-by member that a woman was asleep in Claremont Road.

'Officers spotted the woman who was drifting in and out of sleep with the child in a pushchair beside her,' a police spokesman said. 'She appeared intoxicated and refused to give police her details and was arrested.' A breath test showed she was more than four times the legal drink-drive limit.

'CCTV footage showed the child had been out of the pushchair and close to traffic on several occasions,' the spokesman added.

The woman admitted being drunk while looking after her two-year-old child and was given a police caution.
