Morrisons stores across Norfolk and Waveney have appointed specific people to help customers during what the supermarket believes will be the 'heaviest' shopping week of the year.

An in-store 'strongperson' will be on hand in various Morrisons branches - including Norwich, Wymondham, Diss, Beccles and Catton - up to and including Black Friday.

This person will be one of the fittest people working in the store and will be responsible for helping customers carry particularly heavy items to their cars.

Once customers have paid for their shopping those who need help can stop by the customer service desk and a call will be put out over the tannoy for the store's 'strongperson' to come and assist them.

Deals across the supermarkets, which will run each day this week until Friday, November 25, include large items such as a 7kg whole leg of Serrano ham for £28, a 1.2kg Chocolate Gateau for £2.50 and 5 litre kegs of Old Speckled Hen for £10, all of which are expected to increase the weight of shoppers' bags significantly.

Nigel Walters, Morrisons Norwich Store Manager, said: 'With this week likely to be out heaviest of the year, our customers may need help carrying large items to their cars, so we will be offering our strongest shopkeepers to help carry the load.'
