Electrical engineers were called to Cobholm, Great Yarmouth, following reports of a fire coming from a manhole.

A crew from Yarmouth went to Breydon Road about 2.45pm yesterday and used a thermal image camera to check to flames. Contractors for UK Power Networks were called in and 169 homes had their electricity turned off.

A spokesman for the electricity board said: 'We carried out repairs to part of the underground electricity network at the junction of Breydon Road and Isaac's Road in Cobholm after a fault occurred.

'In order for our engineers to repair the fault quickly and safely, we isolated electricity supplies to 169 customers in the area from 4.35pm to 6.20pm.

'We would like to thank customers for their understanding while we carried out this work. We appreciate how difficult it is to be without electricity and apologise to all those affected.'
