Metal railings surrounding a ruined church are finally coming down on Monday.

Months after the two year project to stabilise and preserve Hopton's ruined church has finished the fencing is being dismantled.

The work is being carried out for free by borough councillor Carl Annison, whose council ward includes the Grade II* listed structure.

Parish council clerk Julie McNair said the lottery funded project had been completed earlier in the year but the metal fencing and posts gave the impression there was still more to do.

She said a lot of people had asked about it, and were pleased it was being done at no cost to the council.

Mr Annison said he was present at a parish council meeting when they were talking about getting quotes for the work - something he realised he could do for free.

He estimated it would take two days at the most. Other councillors and volunteers were also helping and Clems Skips will manage the waste.
