South West Norfolk MP Elizabeth Truss joined her South East Cambridgeshire counterpart Lucy Frazer and Cambridgeshire and Peterborough mayoral candidate James Palmer, at Ely Railway station to highlight the importance of upgrading the Ely North Rail Junction.
Ms Truss has been pressing for the upgrade of the rail junction to take place as quickly as possible. A rail summit held in January heard preparatory work on the junction would take two years to complete. The freight companies have pledged £2m to develop the scheme with a decision due from the LEPs for an additional £6.6m to be confirmed this month.
In a letter to the Greater Cambridgeshire and Peterborough LEP and New Anglia LEP, she has urged that funding be agreed as soon as possible for preparatory work. She said she was delighted that the mayoral candidate James Palmer was also pressing for the scheme to be started.
