Mattishall Parish Council was awarded a match funding grant towards the project on the site of the old Victorian school which will feature play equipment, adult fitness equipment, a concrete table tennis table and seating.

The total cost of the project is over £75,000 and the parish council has already secured £37,410 through other grants and fundraising events.

District councillor Paul Claussen told the committee that it was the right project in the right place in the village.

Committee member Katie O'Connor said they were delighted with the grant award and they were in touching distance of the full total. 'I was not happy about the old school being demolished but a new play area on that site seems fitting to me,' she said, adding more fund-raising events are planned.
