A Norfolk charity has been awarded more than £123,000 in BBC Children in Need funding.

Mancroft Advice Project (MAP) has been allocated a three-year grant to deliver counselling sessions for young people affected by abuse.

The advice project which has centres in Norwich, Great Yarmouth, Attleborough, King's Lynn and North Walsham.

This is the first funding round of the year from Children in Need, with additional funding to be allocated to projects across the UK throughout 2018.

Through the sessions, MAP counsellors will support young people to reduce their anxiety and distress and increase their confidence, well-being and self-esteem.

Clare Franklin, development manager at MAP, said: 'A huge thank you to everyone at BBC Children in Need for their support. With this funding we will be able to support young people to increase their understanding of themselves, to increase the quality of their lives with greater prospect of a happier future.'

MAP have been given a three-year grant of £123,781 each year.

Across Norfolk, Children in Need is currently funding 31 projects to a value of £2 million.

All of the projects we fund work to make a real difference to the lives of disadvantaged children and young people, and these recently awarded projects really will go on to change young lives in the area.
