A man who died following a serious two-car crash on the A11 at Barton Mills has been named as Charles McCulloch.

The 88-year-old, of Seymore Street, died at the scene of the two-vehicle crash on Saturday, July 22.

A tribute to Mr McCulloch has been paid by his family.

They said: 'Big Charles was an avid follower of football and well known in the Cambridge area, refereeing in several leagues, to the age of 73.

'He was an uncle, great uncle, great great uncle, who will be sadly missed and always be in our hearts, Sheila, Charles, John, William.'

Police were called at 2.20pm to the collision between Mr McCulloch's gold Volkswagen Golf and a white Suzuki Swift on the northbound A11 at the Worlington junction.

Ambulance crews and the air ambulance also attended.

Two occupants of the Suzuki were taken to hospital, but their injuries were not believed to be serious.

The road was closed in both directions between Mildenhall and Red Lodge, and the northbound carriageway remained closed until just before 7.50pm.
