Archant

A man had to be rescued after becoming trapped in his car when it overturned onto its roof and landed in a water-filled ditch.

Emergency services were called to Gogg’s Mill Road in Fakenham, near Hempton, at around 9am today (Tuesday October 2) following reports of a car upside down in water.

The road, which runs adjacent to the busy A1065 Fakenham bypass, is typically a quiet route but debris from the crash remained at the scene hours after the incident.

Tyre marks and crushed foliage marked the spot where the incident happened, just metres away from an area known locally as chicken bridge, close to Fakenham Garden Centre.

And in the ditch, a submerged parcel shelf could still be seen in the water.

A local resident, who did not want to be named, said the accident must have been “terrifying for all involved” and recalled hearing the East Anglian Air Ambulance flying overhead at the time.

A women, who works in the area, said she had not been aware of the incident as she “often” heard sirens there due to frequent accidents on the main road.

The man did not required hospital treatment and the road was able to remain open.

Norfolk police remained on scene until the arrival of a recovery vehicle at around 10.30am.
