The pedestrian, a man aged in his 20s, was taken to hospital with serious injuries following the crash in Diss on Friday (January 18).

Emergency services were called to Victoria Road at 4.45pm following the crash near to the junction with Rose Lane.

The white Yamaha motorcycle had been travelling along on Victoria Road when it mounted the pavement and hit the man.

Victoria Road, the main A1066 road through Diss, was busy with rush hour traffic and tailbacks caused road works at the time of the crash.

Witnesses to the aftermath of the collision, which happened outside a row of houses called Albert Terrace, said the main road had to be closed for three hours.

The pedestrian was seen receiving lengthy treatment at the scene from paramedics before being transferred to hospital.

Ozlem Bicak, who works at Victoria Fish Bar fish and chip shop, said: 'We could tell that it was very serious straight away. We heard they were trying to find somewhere nearby for the air ambulance to land and the road was closed and didn't re-open until about 10pm.

'The police came in to check our CCTV which looks out on to Victoria Road. They want to see if it had caught the accident or the motorcycle and to see what speed it was doing.'

Derek Spencer, a driver who works in Diss, said: 'It looked extremely nasty. I don't know if the man was trying to cross the road or how the bike came to hit him. Victoria Road was almost bumper to bumper at the time because of the road works further down beyond the station and people queuing to turn on Rose Lane and Stuston Road.'

No one has been arrested in connection with the crash but investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident are continuing.

Police have appealed for anyone who may have witnessed the collision, or the manner of driving of the motorcycle prior to the collision, to come forward. Officers are particularly keen to hear from anyone who may have dashcam footage.
