A city centre road was partially blocked this lunchtime due to a 70-year-old man suffering minor injuries after stumbling into the path of an oncoming bus.

Prince of Wales Road was down to one lane near to Pulse nightclub, about halfway down the busy road, with one ambulance and one police van in attendance after receiving an emergency call at 11.48am.

The number 35 bus service which runs between the University of East Anglia and Norwich Rail Station, via Earlham Road and the city centre, was pulled into one of its bus stops on the road with the ambulance alongside causing the road to be reduced to one lane.

The ambulance service called for police assistance at 11.55 and the elderly man has since been taken to his home by police with minor injuries, thought to be some minor cuts to his legs.

A spokesman for First buses confirmed: 'At 11.45am today our service 35 bus was travelling on Prince of Wales Road in Norwich when a gentleman stumbled off the pavement and into the moving vehicle.

'The driver stopped the bus and rang 999 for an ambulance. We believe the gentleman was not taken to hospital and we wish him a swift recovery.'
