Man found unconscious in Thetford

A 46-year-old Portuguese man is today still unconscious in hospital a week after he was found slumped on the ground in a street in Thetford.The man, who lives in the Thetford area, was found at the entrance to a car park in Cage Lane by passers by who knew him at about 11.

A 46-year-old Portuguese man is today still unconscious in hospital a week after he was found slumped on the ground in a street in Thetford.

The man, who lives in the Thetford area, was found at the entrance to a car park in Cage Lane by passers by who knew him at about 11.30pm on Friday, August 17.

Police only released details of the incident today because they had been trying to ascertain whether his injuries are the result of a crime or not.

This evening police will be conducting enquiries in the Cage Lane area

After he was found the man was taken to the West Suffolk Hospital, in Bury St Edmunds, where he was treated for head injuries.

He was transferred to Addenbrooke's Hospital, in Cambridge, where he is currently unconscious but is described as being in a “stable” condition.

Det Chief Inspector Neil Firm said: “It is not yet clear how the man received his injuries and we need to establish whether or not they are as a result of a criminal act.

“It is vital for anyone who thinks they may have witnessed anything connected with this incident or with any further information to contact police.”
