A man died after two cars were involved in a collision near Thetford.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the head-on crash, on the A1075 at Croxton last night.

It happened around 11.50pm on Thetford Road when a silver Vauxhall Astra, travelling towards Thetford, and a blue Volvo C70, which was travelling in the opposite direction, were in collision.

The male driver of the Astra, who is believed to have been aged in his early 30s, died at the scene.

The female driver of the Volvo suffered serious injuries and the male passenger in the same vehicle sustained slight injuries. Both remain at West Suffolk Hospital.

The road was closed whilst emergency services attended. It was reopened around 4.30am today.

An East of England Ambulance Service spokesman said it received an emergency 999 call to the A1075 near Thetford at 11.50pm after reports of a crash involving two cars.

'Three ambulances, a critical care team and an ambulance officer were sent,' he said. 'On arrival they treated three patients.

'Despite the best efforts of all involved, one patient was pronounced dead at scene.

'A further two patients were conveyed to the West Suffolk Hospital for further treatment.'

Norfolk fire service said two appliances from Thetford attended to assist the police and ambulance service and make vehicles and the surrounding area safe.

Police are appealing for witnesses, particularly anyone who saw the driving manner of either vehicle prior to the incident, to call the serious collision investigation team on 101.
